Hello and welcome to Chikara Human Capital.
My name is Regan Engelhardt – CEO and Principal Consultant.
After working and studying in Japan after University, I joined a private equity fund as an investment analyst. In that role I learned many important things about people: people make the decisions, people carry out the work and ultimately, people determine whether a company succeeds or not.
I joined the world’s largest finance and accounting recruitment firm and became a top-3 consultant in Australasia and a top-20 consultant, globally.
Then in 2008, the GFC arrived like a tsunami and swept the global finance industry away almost overnight.
I left agency recruitment to establish my own boutique practice so I could recruit fewer roles and devote more time and attention to each one.
For 5 years I built a thriving business and then an opportunity emerged. I began recruiting for a small, Melbourne-based biotech that had raised seed funding to develop next-generation veterinary medicines for companion animals.
Within 6 months, we had raised a $7 million series-A round, recruited a dozen new people, and I was offered the full-time role as Director of Human Resources. In the next 4 years we grew Nexvet in Australia, North American and Ireland to 100 employees and consultants, raised US$40 million through a NASDAQ IPO, and finally sold the business to animal-health giant Zoetis in 2017 for US$85 million.
Now I’ve returned to what I love doing best; working with great companies to find, attract and hire great people.
I lead an international team of researchers, sourcing professionals and subject-matter experts to conduct professional, cost-effective executive search assignments for clients in life sciences and finance.
Chikara (chee-kar-ra) is a Japanese character that is used in Japanese words such as strength, capability, influence, energy and effectiveness.
Chikara connotes a sense of motive force, of movement, of getting things done, of capacity for action and for delivering results.
These are qualities possessed by the outstanding people we look for; the people that breathe energy and life into organisations, that power the creative, transformative activities that move and shape our future.
They are also the qualities our clients value in the way that we approach our work and represent their brand in the marketplace.
Classic Japanese art depicting great battles was often drawn from the perspective of an observer; a general who could see beyond the chaos of the moment to the bigger picture.
Our clients face a thousand daily distractions, commitments and minor battles of their own, and they like having a skilled general looking out for their interests.
Our aim is to help you see order in the chaos, and help you win the war for talent.
